The Torrance HVAC Maintenance Guide (Year-Round)

6 min read·AirCare Solutions Team

Torrance's mild climate is a blessing — and a trap. Because systems don't get pushed as hard as in extreme climates, owners forget about maintenance, and the result is preventable breakdowns when the rare heat wave or cold snap hits.

January–February (Cold season check)

Have the furnace inspected if you haven't this year. Check that the heat strip (in heat-pump systems) cycles properly. Replace the filter.

March (Pre-cooling season)

Schedule a professional spring tune-up: coil cleaning, drain pan flush, refrigerant temperature split check, capacitor and contactor inspection.

April–May (Allergy peak)

Consider upgrading to a higher-MERV filter for allergy season. Run the system fan in 'On' mode to keep air circulating through the filter.

June–September (Cooling season)

Change filters more often during heavy use months. Check the outdoor condenser for leaves, debris and overgrowth. Hose down the coil fins gently if accessible.

October (Pre-heating season)

Schedule a fall tune-up before the first cold weather. Inspect the heat exchanger (gas systems). Test thermostat operation.

November–December (Settling in)

Final filter change before holidays. Listen for any unusual sounds; address before they become breakdowns.

Year-round

Keep registers clear of furniture and rugs. Don't close more than 20% of vents in any home — it raises static pressure and damages equipment. Watch for water around the air handler — it's the first sign of drain line problems.
